Reflexology
Reflexology is the ancient art of treating the body through the hands and feet, dating from thousands of years ago in China and Egypt. Reflex points corresponding to parts of the body are stimulated easing aches and pains using thumb and finger pressure only.
Stressful stimuli can disrupt the body’s harmonious state (known as homeostasis) and Reflexology aims to maintain this steady state, helping to prevent ill health.
By manipulating the reflexes on the sole of the feet or the hands, healing forces present in the body are stimulated and these help to maintain good health as well as treating ill-health.
LIMBIC REFLEXOLOGY
Limbic reflexology is concerned with the limbic brain networks. These networks monitor what is happening both within our body and what is going on around us. They are concerned with regulatory processes aimed at maintaining balance or homeostasis.
Where there is temporary or ongoing disruption of the limbic networks the natural homeostasis is not achieved. The networks may become oversensitive, as in some chronic pain conditions or in the case if chronic anxiety our alarm system becomes hypervigilant. People often seek help from Reflexology for chronic, unexplained and difficult to treat conditions, including chronic pain. Limbic Reflexology treatments aim to help in the restoration of the natural homeostasis. This is not a stand alone therapy but will form part of an overall treatment. All of the limbic reflex areas are found in the big toes and that is where the treatment will be concentrated. Treatments last between 45 minutes and an hour. Usually a minimum of six treatments will be required.
However, Reflexology does not claim to diagnose or be used as a ‘cure-all’, although numerous disorders have been successfully treated by this method such as –
Stress / Anxiety
Migraines/Headaches / Sinus problems
Digestive disorders / Constipation
Back pain / Joint pain
Sleep disorders
Pain relief / Post-op recovery
Hormonal imbalances / Sub-fertility

Hot Stone Reflexology
Hot Stone Reflexology includes the use of hot stones, in between finger pressure, on specific reflex points on the feet to release tension at a deeper level. The heat of the stones, on the feet and lower legs, penetrate deeper into the layers of the muscles and assist in opening and activating the energy channels of the reflex points.
Other benefits include: deeper relaxation and cleansing of the organs, better elimination of waste from the body, increased action of leukocytes which help fight infections, and the release of tension in connective tissues, lower legs and back. The effect of hot stone reflexology is also believed to last longer than a standard reflexology treatment.
What to expect?
Your first treatment begins with a free consultation discussing any medical problems or conditions you may have; your lifestyle and any issues or answering any questions you may have, followed by your first treatment of approximately one hour.
During this session any bodily imbalances will be identified and a treatment plan will be devised for your subsequent sessions.
As Reflexology works on the hands or feet you will remain clothed throughout only removing footwear. You will be relaxing on a massage bed with your feet slightly raised.
Stretching and relaxing techniques are used to begin the session followed by specific thumb and finger manipulation. The pressure is quite firm so can be very effective on clients who may normally be ‘ticklish’.
Reflexology is a safe, but firm therapy which may be used for virtually every health problem without any adverse side effects.
You may experience a ‘healing crisis’ after the first treatment which represents a very good response to the treatment and this may make you feel tired or aching as though you are coming down with flu. You could also feel a little weepy or needing to urinate more.
This is nothing to worry about as it means that your body is responding well to the treatment and releasing toxins into the body. This can easily be remedied by drinking plenty of water after treatment and taking it easy.
